On local bus, paper transfer can issued upon request. A valid METRORail paper ticket can be used as a bus transfer. When using a smart card, free transfer (within 3 hours after tap) automatically applies on bus or rail.

METRO Smartcards

METRO Q - reloadable cash value smart card

METRO Day Pass - reloadable smart card that has a daily maximum fare ($3 per day)

METRO Money Card - disposable smart cards sold at fixed values.

Smart cards can be reloaded online, at Park & Ride locations, METRORail ticket machines, and onboard buses.

Discounted fare eligibility

  • Seniors age 65-69 (seniors age 70 or above ride free) with ID
  • Disabled
  • Students (K-12 and college) with student ID

All eligible riders need to register to obtain a discounted smart card.
