August 2019 Service Changes

Capital Metro regularly makes changes to its service to improve the customer experience and to respond to changes in ridership demand or patterns. In August, these changes will come in 4 types:

• Transitioning the MetroLink pilot program to a neighborhood circulator service.
• New service to parts of Travis County.
• Seasonal adjustments accounting for the beginning of the school year.
• Minor service adjustments to improve on-time performance.

Continuous improvement is our goal, and so we listen to what you tell us about your experiences when considering changes to our service. The August 2019 service changes respond to that feedback and are intended to improve the rider experience while maintaining system efficiency.

These changes were approved by the Capital Metro board of directors April 22 and will take effect Sunday, August 18.

Neighborhood Circulators

Our MetroLink service will transition to an on-demand neighborhood circulator serving the four areas identified for the pilot program last year.:

• • Exposition Boulevard
  • Johnston Terrace
  • Springdale Road and Rogge Lane
  • The area near St. David's North Austin Medical Center

Our efforts to match the proper service with different customer bases will continue in these parts of our service area. The neighborhood circulators will operate similar to the Pickup service that operated in the Mueller neighborhood and Northeast Austin in 2017-18. Customers will be able to request rides using an app or by calling in a same-day reservation. Each ride will be charged as a Local trip, $1.25 each way. Specific details - such as the size of the service zone or days and hours of service � will be determined through extensive community engagement in each neighborhood.

Service in Travis County

Travis County and Capital Metro have reached an agreement on a transit development plan (TDP) that extends transit service to unincorporated parts of the county that lie outside of the Cap Metro service area. The board approved the TDP, which calls for services to be implemented in phases, in 2018.In this phase, CARTS will operate the on-demand Pickup service in Hornsby Bend and Austin's Colony as a one-year pilot sponsored by Travis County. The goal of the service is to connect the neighborhoods to Capital Metro's Route 20 for High-Frequency service to the University of Texas campus and downtown, as well as the HEB at Springdale and Manor.This pilot may not start in conjunction with other August service changes.

Seasonal Schedule Adjustments

Some routes will again begin operating school-related trips, E-Bus service will resume operations and UT Shuttle routes will return to their in-session service

• • School trips on Routes 4, 7, 10, 17 & 333 would resume service
  • E-Bus Routes 410, 411 and 412 would also resume their service.
  • UT Shuttle Routes 640, 641, 642, 656, 661, 663, 670, 671, 672, 680, 681 & 682 will shift back to their in-session service levels.
