Service change impacting all routes and riders scheduled for Aug. 19

DART will make major changes to its service on Sunday, August 19, 2018. This service change will have an impact on all DART riders because it will include changes for every DART route and service type.

Significant changes DART is making include:

  • Local Route 50 New crosstown route in north Des Moines, Local Route 50 - Euclid/Douglas
  • Earlier service Earlier service on Local Routes
  • Improved frequency Increased midday frequency on several Local Routes

In addition to the changes listed above, DART will make other minor changes including:

  • Local Route 10 Map changes for Local Route 10 - East University in the cities of Des Moines and Plesant Hill
  • DMPS Bell Schedule changes to fit new DMPS school bell times
  • Platform changes Platform changes to where certain routes board and alight at DART Central Station

Local Route 50: Euclid/Douglas Crosstown

DART's new crosstown route will travel east and west along Euclid and Douglas Avenues from E 42nd Street to Haymarket Mall on Merle Hay Road.

Route 50 will run on weekdays with 40-minute frequency.

The route will include transfer points for seven Local Routes:

  • Local Route 1 - Fairgrounds
  • Local Route 4 - E 14th Street
  • Local Route 5 - Franklin Ave/Johnston
  • Local Route 14 - Beaver Avenue
  • Local Route 15 - 6th Avenue
  • Local Route 16 - Douglas Avenue
  • Local Route 17 - Hubbell Avenue/Altoona

Earlier start times

DART will begin its service day for several Local Routes earlier so people can get to work by 6 a.m. You can find a list of impacted routes below. To view schedules for the routes, click on the route link.

  • Local Route 4 - E 14th Street
  • Local Route 6 - Indianola Avenue
  • Local Route 7 - SW 9th Street
  • Local Route 14 - Beaver Avenue
  • Local Route 15 - 6th Avenue
  • Local Route 16 - Douglas Avenue
  • Local Route 17 - Hubbell Avenue/Altoona
  • Local Route 50 - Euclid/Douglas Crosstown
  • Local Route 52 - Valley West/Jordan Creek Crosstown
  • Local Route 60 - University/Ingersoll

Because of this change, DART Central Station will open one hour earlier on weekdays. Hours for DART's Customer Service window and phones will not change.

Improved midday frequency

DART completed a comprehensive analysis of all Local Routes, and has identified several routes that will receive 20 minute frequency during the peak and midday travel times. Because of this, midday frequencies will improve for the following Local Routes: Local Route 3 - University, Local Route 6 - Indianola Ave, Local Route 7 - SW 9th Street, Local Route 15 - 6th Ave and Local Route 16 - Douglas Ave.

In addition to the routes listed above, Local Route 14 � Beaver Ave and Local Route 52 - Valley West/Jordan Creek Crosstown will also see improved midday frequency.

Other changes

In addition to the other major changes listed above, DART will also make changes to Local Route 10 � East University, change certain schedules to better match DMPS bell times and change which platforms certain routes go to at DART Central Station. More information on these changes follows.

Local Route 10 - East University

DART made some minor map changes to Local Route 10 - East University which will go into effect on Monday, August 20. As part of these changes, the route will no longer travel to the Iowa State Capitol Complex in Des Moines or the Copper Creek Park and Ride or Little Fourmile Creek Drive in Pleasant Hill. A map of the changes is posted below.

Schedule changes to fit DMPS Bell Times

DART will adjust schedules for the following routes to fit new school bell times for Des Moines Public School (DMPS) students and staff. To view schedules for these routes, click on the route names in the list below.

  • Local Route 1 - Fairgrounds
  • Local Route 6 - Indianola Avenue
  • Local Route 7 - SW 9th Street
  • Local Route 8 - Fleur Drive
  • Local Route 13 - SE Park Avenue
  • Local Route 14 - Beaver Avenue
  • Local Route 15 - 6th Avenue
  • Local Route 16 - Douglas Avenue

Platform changes at DART Central Station

DART changed where some Local Routes have passengers board or alight riders at DART Central Station to better serve our customers. Routes that will move platforms include:

  • Local Route 5 - Franklin Ave/Johnston moving to Platform A
  • Local Route 6 - Indianola Ave moving to Platform C
  • Local Route 10 - East University moving to Platform M
  • Local Route 11 - Ingersoll/Valley Junction moving to Platform A
  • Local Route 17 - Hubbell Ave/Altoona moving to Platform N

Changes go into effect on Sunday, Aug. 19

Because this is a major change to DART's service, please expect that it will affect how you use DART's services. Full details, including maps and schedules, are posted throughout this page. Information is also available from the DART Customer Service Window, which is located at DART Central Station, 620 Cherry Street, Des Moines. Printed schedules will be available from DART Customer Service and on DART buses beginning Wednesday, August 15.
