October 2018 Transit Service Changes Overview

Valley Metro sought public comment from April 30 � June 1, 2018 on proposed service adjustments scheduled to take effect on October 22, 2018.

Background

Valley Metro and City of Phoenix service changes occur as a way to develop an effective regional transit system that supports Valley communities, businesses and residents. Public input was requested on the following service changes scheduled to take effect on October 22, 2018.

Summary of Changes

  • Holiday Service Reinstatement - Restore weekday service levels on five holidays for light rail, local bus, circulators and rural route: Veterans Day, Presidents Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Express and RAPID service will not operate.
  • Route 8 - 7th Ave: Southbound trips will no longer stop inside Central Station, please use the existing stop on 1st Ave. at Van Buren St.
  • Route 56 - Priest Dr: In Scottsdale, eliminate service along McDowell Rd. and to SkySong. The route will end at the Desert Botanical Garden.
  • Route 72 - Scottsdale Rd/Rural Rd: In Scottsdale and Tempe, eliminate 10-minute service from Tempe Transportation Center to Camelback Rd and peak service to Scottsdale Park-and-Ride. Maintain 20-minute service all day for entire route.
  • Route 80 - Northern Ave/Shea Blvd: In Scottsdale, eliminate service east of 90th St. All trips will end at Mustang Transit Center. Check the new Scottsdale - Mustang route for service to Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd./Via Linda.
  • Route 81 - Hayden Rd/McClintock Dr: In Scottsdale, eliminate service north of Shea Blvd. All trips will end at Mustang Transit Center. Check the new Scottsdale - Mustang route for service to Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd./Via Linda.
  • Route 104 - Alma School Rd: In Mesa, route no longer serves Fiesta Mall.
  • Route 106 - Peoria Ave: In Phoenix, route will travel counterclockwise only around Metrocenter Mall. Some stops will be removed.
  • Express 542 - Chandler Express: Add one inbound and outbound trip.
  • Express 562 - Goodyear Express: Adjust schedule to alleviate overcrowding on the first two outbound trips.
  • Downtown BUZZ: In Mesa, increase weekday service hours.
  • New Scottsdale - 68th Street/Camelback Rd: In Scottsdale, route will serve the Granite Reef Senior and Paiute Neighborhood Center to Scottsdale Community College.
  • New Scottsdale - Mustang: In Scottsdale, new route will serve the Mustang Transit Center, Raintree Dr. and Northsight Blvd. to Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd. and Via Linda. This route will cover portions of routes 80 and 81 that have been removed.
  • New Scottsdale - Miller/Hayden: In Scottsdale, route will serve the Granite Reef Senior Center and the Mustang Transit Center.
  • Old Town Trolley: Formerly known as the Scottsdale Downtown Trolley, has a route change through Old Town Scottsdale.

Categorized Changes

  • Modified routes: 8, 56, 80, 81, 104, 106, New Miller/Hayden, Scottsdale Downtown Trolley modified and renamed to Old Town Trolley
  • Frequency adjustments: 41, 72, BUZZ, 562
  • Eliminated routes: Camelback Road, Neighborhood Trolley
  • New routes: 68th St/Camelback Rd, Miller/Hayden, Mustang
