All-door boarding is a policy where passengers can board the bus through any door like rail vehicles. Buses traditionally board riders at the front door where passengers upon boarding pay or tag card at the farebox, or show pass to the driver. The intent of all-door boarding is to reduce time spent at the bus stop.

For bus lines that all-door boarding policy is implemented, riders pay by one or more of the following methods depending on agency and location:

  • buying a ticket from a ticket machine at the bus stop before boarding the bus.
  • upon boarding, tag fare card at the reader located by the front and rear doors.
  • upon boarding, cash riders pay at the farebox at the front. Other riders with card, ticket, or pass can board at rear doors.

Fare checks may be conducted onboard the bus at anytime and violators are subject to citation.
