In the event of a strike on the BART system, you may want to consider the following:

  • Adjust work schedule to avoid peak hours
  • Telecommute
  • Carpool (parking lot at BART station would likely be made available for carpooling)
  • Alternative transit (expect crowded buses and ferries)

Local transit is available at all BART stations. However, because transit workers at other agencies are also unionized, the buses would most likely stop outside the BART property to avoid crossing the picket line.

Richmond - Fremont

Riders from stations along the Richmond - Fremont line have the option of taking AC Transit, which some routes run parallel to BART and serve two or more stations.

Routes include: 72, 72M, 51, 1R, and 99

Concord line

Most buses in the area do not run parallel to BART, and there's no bus that runs between Orinda and Oakland. It is likely that BART would provide charter bus service in that corridor.

Vallejo Transit 78 provides service from Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill to Vallejo Ferry Terminal, connecting with ferries to San Francisco.

Dublin/Pleasanton line

Most buses in the area do not run parallel to BART, and there's no bus that runs between Dublin/Pleasanton and Castro Valley. It is likely that BART would provide charter bus service in that corridor.

Transbay

Ferries

Ferries are available in the East Bay to the Ferry Building in San Francisco:

AC Transit

AC Transit provides bus service across the Bay Bridge to Transbay Terminal

details

WestCAT

WestCAT Lynx from Hercules also serve Transbay Terminal. In the event of a strike, Lynx will operate about every 10 minutes during peak hours and hourly midday. The last bus will leave San Francisco at 9:00pm.

Other bridges

Because the Bay Bridge would probably be too congested, you may want to consider taking buses on the other bridges.

Caltrain is available on the other side of the Bay and parking is available at most stations.

Peninsula

Caltrain

Caltrain provides service from the South Bay to San Francisco.

SamTrans

Bus stops at Colma and Daly City stations will be relocated off BART property. Daly City stops would be on DeLong Street. Colma stops would be at the SamTrans owned parking lot on the other side of the station. At Millbrae, El Camino buses would stay on El Camino.

SamTrans would operate a shuttle from Daly City and Colma stations to Mission & Evergreen to connect with Muni services on Mission Street.

SamTrans provides regular bus service between the Peninsula and San Francisco
