Some of the historic streetcar systems provide actual urban transit functions (San Francisco and New Orleans). These lines operate frequently everyday, while other historic streetcar lines may be operated as a rail museum or volunteer operation that provide service on a limited basis.

Some of cities that have historic streetcar lines may also operate modern streetcars and/or light rail.
