Powell Station is a three level underground station for BART and Muni Metro in San Francisco's main shopping district and is within walking distance from Moscone Center. It is also the terminal for cable cars to Fisherman's Wharf.

Muni Metro and BART share the same concourse but have separate platforms in different levels. Each system has its own faregates and station agents.

lines serve this station underground. Ticket machines (Clipper card only) are available at the underground station concourse. First time riders must purchase a reusable Clipper card from a vending machine (including gold BART and red Muni machines) before boarding. All riders must pass through the faregates with a valid BART ticket or Clipper card. Keep the ticket or card for the ride and use it to pass through the faregates again when exiting the station.

Riders using the elevator to access platform need to process ticket or card at the fare gates before and after each ride, even though the elevator to the platform is located outside the paid area.

New Clipper cards can also be obtained from Muni ticket machines in the station concourse.

BART schedules

N, K, and T lines currently serve this station underground. Muni Metro opens until about 10:00pm.

Cash fare riders need to buy a Muni ticket or Clipper card from any Muni ticket machine on the concourse level. Riders with a valid Muni ticket or Clipper card can pass through any Muni faregate and proceed to the platform. Riders with other forms of passes or transfers should use the faregate next to the attendant booth and show the pass or transfer to the attendant. Riders using the elevator to access platform need to tag card or ticket at a Muni Clipper reader near the elevator before entering. Riders must keep the proof of payment for the ride.

Muni provides local bus service within San Francisco. Lines 8, 30, 45, and 91 stop on 4th Street in the southbound direction, and 3rd Street in the northbound direction. Montgomery Station is closer to the 3rd Street bus stop.

F-Market & Wharves streetcars operate on the surface along Market Street and stop on boarding islands in the middle of Market St by 4th St and by 5th St.

Cable Car

Terminal for Powell-Mason and Powell-Hyde lines is located on Powell St by Market St. It is a popular tourist spot because the cable cars are manually turned-around there.

Souvenir cable car tickets can be purchased at the ticket booth by the turnaround.

Bay Wheels operates a self-service bike share station near the station.
