Sound Transit opens Link Rail Line 1 extension to Federal Way

On December 6, 2025, Sound Transit opened the Link Line 1 extension from Angle Lake to Federal Way. The 7.8-mile extension brings the rail line closer to the Pierce County line and Tacoma, which is planned as the final southern endpoint under the Sound Transit 3 expansion plan approved by voters in 2016. The project to extend the line beyond Federal Way is currently in the planning phase.

The extension to Federal Way includes three new stations: near Highline College (Kent Des Moines), South 272nd Street (Star Lake), and South 320th Street (Federal Way Downtown). The southern terminus is near the existing Federal Way Transit Center, which features a large park-and-ride facility. The ride from Angle Lake to Federal Way takes about 15 minutes, and over 50 minutes from downtown Seattle.
