Sound Transit announces that the Crosslake Connection will open on March 28

Recently, Sound Transit announced the opening of the Crosslake Connection on March 28. On that day, Line 2 will continue from Bellevue to Downtown Seattle via the I-90 floating bridge, then extend beyond Downtown Seattle to Lynnwood, providing additional service along the northern portion of Line 1. This new service will replace Express Route 550, which, before 2019, operated inside the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel and served the same stops now handled only by Link trains.

Sound Transit originally planned to open the connection in 2023, but the project was delayed for years to repair construction defects on the I-90 Bridge. Due to this delay, the segment of Line 2 between Redmond and Bellevue opened in April 2024.

Sound Transit is now conducting pre-revenue operations to test the rail system and train operating and maintenance crews. These operations will ramp up until full service runs along the entire route between Redmond and Lynnwood before the opening date. During testing, the same train may carry passengers east of Bellevue and north of Downtown Seattle, but not in between.
