Service Change Overview

This service change focuses on building ridership and improving service quality for the DART bus system. It is the first part of a major series of changes - with expanded resources - to be implemented in 2018-19. Built from recommendations of a comprehensive review of DART services, it aims to increase service frequencies, make routes more direct, and improve on-time bus performance.

These modifications continue a trend which has resulted in ridership gains when implemented on other routes. Most involve moving 40-60 minute frequencies to every 30 minutes. Affected routes would include 164, 378, 404, 428, 453, 463, 466, 467, 554 and 592. These are detailed below.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION OF CHANGE
164 Weekday midday 20 to 15 minutes, (40 to 30 on branches)
378 Weekday midday, evening 60 to 30 minutes
404 Saturday midday, 60 to 30 minutes
428 Weekday midday, 35 to 30 minutes, Sunday 60 to 45 minutes.
453 Weekday, Saturday midday, 40 to 30 minutes, weekday evenings 60 to 30 minutes
463 Weekday midday, Saturday daytime 40 to 30 minutes
466 Weekday midday & evenings, Saturday daytime, Sunday midday 40 to 30 minutes
467 Weekday midday & evenings, Saturday daytime, Sunday midday 40 to 30 minutes
554 Weekday midday, 40 to 30 minutes
592 Weekday, Saturday & Sunday midday, 30 to 20 minutes

Route Restructuring Begins With 400 Upgrade, More Direct NE Dallas Service

The most prominent route upgrade involves the central portion of 400, DART's longest route. Overlapping routes 402 and 403 will replace the single route, doubling the frequency between Spring Valley and Downtown Carrollton stations. Also planned are significant changes in northeast Dallas, on Routes 1, 24, and 582, with the addition of two new routes and renumbering of several others.

Separation of Route 400 into Routes 402 & 403

402 403

Additional improvements include weekend service on the Irving segment, which will become a portion of Route 403. Passengers who travel within the portion covered by both routes are encouraged to obtain schedules for each.

Northeast Dallas Restructure, New Routes 1

81 82

This route will undergo a change in number only. The Matilda branch will become Route 81, the Skillman branch Route 82. The Wynnewood portion may carry either number, depending on its route between Mockingbird Station and Downtown Dallas. Service levels will remain unchanged. New customer schedules will list service on both routes.

24

The Capitol and McMillan branches will be separated, the McMillan portion retaining the number, current route and similar schedule; for service on the former Capitol alignment, please refer to New Route 84.

84

This new route absorbs the Capitol portion of former Route 24, in addition to introducing service along the Greenville Avenue corridor between Mockingbird Station and Richland Community College, including a stop at Park Lane Station. Service levels will be similar to the former Capitol branch of Route 24.

582

LBJ/Central Station will be the new northern terminus for this route, with service levels unaffected. For improved service to the Hamilton Park community, between Forest Lane and LBJ/Central stations, please refer to New Route 585.

585

In addition to returning all-day service to Hamilton Park, this new route will establish a new connection to Arapaho Center Station, along Audelia and Grove roads, also serving Richland College. Initial schedules will operate Monday through Friday.

Unproductive Service Discontinued

Plano Legacy Circulator Route 346 and Flex Route 842 will be replaced by GoLink, a new on-demand service designed to enhance and expand current DART On-Call zones and introduce service to previously unserved or under-served areas. Patrons are encouraged to obtain new detailed GoLink literature, available soon. Routes 723 (Bishop Arts Service) and 987 (Rapid Ride) have both proven unproductive and are easily replaced by DART local services.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION OF CHANGE
346 Will be replaced by GoLink on weekdays between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m., increasing both hours of operation and area covered
723 Will be discontinued due to low ridership; local service remains available in affected areas on Routes 11, 21, 81/82, 405, 522 and 542
842 Will be replaced by GoLink on weekdays between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m., increasing both hours of operation and area currently covered by FLEX service in Rylie and Kleberg
987 Will be discontinued due to poor performance; duplicate service remains available on Routes 486 and 488
