Route and Schedule Changes Coming September 23, 2018

Intercity Transit is improving and expanding its bus service with new routes starting on September 23, 2018. To help customers plan ahead, we�ve posted the draft maps and schedules below.

Goals of the service changes:

  • Improve on-time performance that results from heavy traffic.
  • Increase frequency on bus routes.
  • Introduce cross-town service that does not travel through downtown Olympia.
  • Introduce new service in northeast Lacey and west Olympia.

Route and schedule changes go into effect on Sept. 23, 2018. New Transit Guides are now available by request at Customer Service. Transit Guides will be available on buses and routes and schedules will be updated on our website on Sept. 23, 2018.

Customer Service is available from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends, to assist with route planning before and after the service change. They can also be reached by phone at 360-786-1881. Language Link, a phone interpreter service, is available for customers with limited English proficiency.

If you need additional assistance, we will have additional Intercity Transit staff, including travel Trainers and Bus Buddies, to assist at peak travel times during the week of the service changes at the Olympia and Lacey Transit Centers.

Travel Trainers are also available for those who may need additional assistance becoming familiar with the new schedules and routes. This service is free to anyone. To schedule an appointment, please call 360-705-5879 or email traveltraining@intercitytransit.com.

Changes by Route

Route 12

Summary of Changes:

Changes to Route 12 will introduce new trip options by providing direct service between west Tumwater, SPSCC & west Olympia and increase frequency to 30 minute all-day service on weekdays and Saturdays. Route 12 will complement the revised Route 42 to maintain 15-minute service between the Olympia Transit Center and SPSCC.

What's Different?

  • Route 12 has been redesigned to improve on-time performance.
  • Increases frequency on Sundays to every 45 minutes.
  • A change in the bus route to provide service on Barnes Boulevard between Linwood Avenue and SPSCC, as well as service between SPSCC and the Olympia Transit Center; the change replaces portions of the discontinued Route 43 and discontinued Route 44.
  • Discontinues service on 2nd Avenue between Linwood Avenue and Tumwater Square (refer to Route 68 for service on 2nd Avenue).
  • Discontinues service on Capitol Way between Tumwater Square and the Olympia Transit Center (refer to Route 13 or Dash for service on Capitol Way).
  • Three new trips on weekday nights from the Olympia Transit Center to Labor & Industries.

Route 13

What's Different

  • One early morning trip was added on weekdays departing the Olympia Transit Center at 6 a.m.
  • Three late night trips were added on weekdays from Labor & Industries to the Olympia Transit Center.

Route 41

Summary of Changes:

Changes to Route 41 will reduce the frequency of buses on weekdays (when The Evergreen State College is in session) from 15 minutes to 30 minutes during the morning and evening peak periods.

What’s Different?

  • The four weekday morning trips that depart the Olympia Transit Center at :15 and :45 after the hour and arrive at The Evergreen State College at :42 & :12 after the hour will be discontinued.
  • The six weekday evening trips that depart The Evergreen State College at :18 and:48 after the hour and arrive at the Olympia Transit Center at :40 & :10 after the hour will be discontinued.

Route 42

Summary of Proposed Changes:

Changes to Route 42 will provide direct service between Thurston County Family and Juvenile Court and the Olympia Transit Center. The route will provide 30-minute service and complements the revised Route 12 to maintain 15-minute service between the Olympia Transit Center and SPSCC.

What's Different?

  • Redesigned schedule to provide continuous service earlier and later in the day and remove gaps in the schedule during mid-mornings and mid-afternoons.
  • Provides two-way service on Dr. Nels Hansen Way/29th Avenue.
  • Introduces new service on Mottman Road, Crites Road and 29th Avenue.
  • Discontinues service on RW Johnson Boulevard and Black Lake Boulevard between Mottman Road and Cooper Point Road.
  • Discontinues service on Cooper Point Road (refer to Route 68).

Route 43

Route 43 will be discontinued and replaced by Routes 12, 42 and 68.

Route 44

Route 44 will be discontinued and replaced by Routes 12, 42 and 68.

Route 45

Summary of Changes:

Changes to Route 45 will introduce new service in west Olympia on Capital Mall Drive, Kaiser Road and Harrison Avenue. The route will complement the revised Route 47 to provide two-way service to Capital Medical Center and surrounding neighborhoods.

What's Different?

  • Discontinues northbound service on Cooper Point Road from Mall Loop Drive to Harrison Avenue.
  • On its inbound trip from Capital Mall to the Olympia Transit Center the bus will travel to Capital Medical Center on Capital Mall Drive, as well as provide northbound service on Kaiser Road between Capital Mall Drive and Harrison Avenue and eastbound service on Harrison Avenue between Kaiser Road and Cooper Point Road.
  • Adjustments to the schedule provide more time on inbound trips between Capital Mall and the Olympia Transit Center.
  • The bus will provide service to the Olympia Farmer’s Market on weekdays and Saturdays traveling outbound only.

Route 47

Summary of Changes:

Changes to Route 47 will introduce new service in west Olympia on Harrison Avenue, Kaiser Road and Capital Mall Drive. The route will complement the revised Route 45 to provide two-way service to Capital Medical Center and surrounding neighborhoods.

What's Different?

  • Discontinues service on Kenyon Rd to Capital Mall (outbound); buses operating on Route 47 will serve Capital Mall one time per loop.
  • Discontinues service on McPhee Road and Yauger Way, as well as westbound service on Capital Mall Drive.

Route 60

Summary of Changes:

Changes to Route 60 will improve consistency and address challenges with on-time performance.

What's Different?

  • Discontinues service on 12th Avenue to the stop located at St. Francis House.

Route 62A

Summary of Changes:

Changes to Route 62A will adjust the schedule to improve on-time performance and introduce service to northeast Lacey.

What's Different?

  • New service on Orion Drive, Willamette Drive, and Marvin Road NE.
  • Discontinues westbound service on Martin Way between Meridian Road and Marvin Road.

Route 62B

Summary of Proposed Changes:

The changes to Route 62B adjust the schedule to improve on-time performance.

Route 66

Summary of Changes

Changes to Route 66 will improve schedule and routing consistency on weekday and Saturday evenings.

What's Different

  • The last three trips on weekday and Saturday evenings will provide service on Ruddell Road instead of College Street.
  • The last trip on weekday and Saturday nights will depart the Olympia Transit Center 18 minutes earlier.

Route 68

Summary of Changes:

Changes to Route 68 will provide direct service between Lacey, SPSCC and west Olympia and increase frequency to 30 minute all-day service on weekdays and Saturdays.

What's Different?

  • Discontinues service on Capitol Way between Tumwater Square and the Olympia Transit Center (refer to Route 13 or Dash for service on Capitol Way).
  • A change in the bus route to provide service in Tumwater on 2nd Avenue and Barnes Boulevard between Tumwater Square and SPSCC; this change replaces portions of the current Route 12 and the discontinued Route 43.
  • A change in the bus route to provide service in Olympia on Cooper Point Road between SPSCC and Capital Mall; this change replaces portions of the discontinued Route 44.
  • Redesigned schedule to accommodate changes to the bus route.
  • Extended hours of evening service on weekdays and Saturdays.
  • Sunday service is increased to 50 minute frequency and adds three additional trips.

Route 94

Summary of Changes: The changes to Route 94 adjust the weekend schedule to improve on-time performance.

What's Different?

  • Adds time in the schedule to help keep the bus on time during periods of heavy traffic congestion.
  • One less trip on Saturday and one less trip on Sunday.

Route 603

Routes 603, 605 and 612 will be consolidated into a revised Route 612.

Routes 603, 605 and 612 will be consolidated into a revised Route 612.

Route 612

Summary of Changes:

Changes to Express service consolidates discontinued Routes 603 and 605 into a revised Route 612. The revised Route 612 changes the bus route and schedule to improve the consistency of Express commuter service and connections with regional transit service. The adjustments to the schedule provide departures every 15 minutes during peak commute hours.

What's Different?

  • Five additional northbound trips and three additional southbound trips will be added to the Express schedule.
  • Redesigned schedule to provide departures every 15 minutes during peak commute hours.
  • Express service to the Lacey Transit Center, Hawks Prairie Park & Ride and between the Tacoma Dome Station and 10th and Commerce will be discontinued.
