UTA Making Emergency Service Adjustments Due to Bus Operator Shortages.
The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is always updating, adjusting and expanding service across the region and we do so three (3) times a year. For December Change Day, these adjustments are based on evolving ridership patterns, ongoing community needs, area growth predictions and important feedback received from the general public.
To add to that, UTA is also experiencing significant staffing shortages and hiring challenges as are many other businesses and transit agencies across the country. As a result of this ongoing shortage, specifically related to bus operators, UTA is making several emergency bus service adjustments in December, impacting Weber, Davis and Salt Lake counties, as well as service to Summit County. These changes will include several local routes, ski-service routes, and regional routes.
Other UTA services, such as Utah County bus service, FrontRunner, TRAX, Paratransit, UTA On Demand, UVX, OGX and the S-Line Streetcar are not currently experiencing staffing issues and are not anticipated to be affected at this time.

December 2022 Change Day
NEW ROUTING
Route 240 NEW ROUTING
- Route moved from Plaza Center Dr to Jordan Landing Blvd between 7000 South and 7800 South
- Route moved from 4420 West to 4015 West between 4700 South and Sams Blvd
- Schedule adjusted for reliability
- Route will remain on a 30-minute frequency on weekdays
Route 831 NEW ROUTING
- Route extended to Orem Central Station (replacing route 841)
Route 902 NEW ROUTING
- Realigned to run between Olympus Cove P+R and Kimball Junction Transit Center
- Connect to route 4 at Olympus Cove P+R for service to downtown and the University of Utah
- Frequency improved to every 90 minutes all day, and in both directions, on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays
Route 994 NEW ROUTING
- Ski service begins December 11
- Frequency reduced from 15/30 minutes to 30 minutes due to labor shortage
- We will no longer be servicing the Albion Day Lodge or the town of Alta bus stops. The ski bus will service Goldminer's Daughter Lodge.
