MacArthur Boulevard is a major east-west route following the foothills of the San Leandro Hills. The road begins in the east, just south of San Leandro Creek, and ends in the west in Emeryville, at the ramps to I-580 and the Bay Bridge. I-580 runs closely parallel to MacArthur Boulevard. Before the construction of I-580, MacArthur Blvd was designated as U.S. Route 50, which continued east to the Altamont Pass and Sacramento.

Although a BART station is located by MacArthur Blvd in North Oakland, much of the MacArthur Blvd corridor remains far from BART.
