OAK | Flight info |
Oakland International Airport is one of four airports in the Bay Area that offer scheduled airline service. Oakland mostly serves low cost carriers including Southwest, Spirit and Volaris. Legacy carriers that fly out of Oakland are Alaska/Hawaiian and Delta.
Terminal 1 is served by all other airlines except Southwest. Terminal 2 is served by Southwest only.
Even though it's located across the bay from San Francisco, the airport is served by BART and offers a similar travel time to Downtown San Francisco as San Francisco International Airport. The Port of Oakland, the agency managing the airport, attempted to rename it "San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport" to capitalize on the broader recognition and similar access to San Francisco. However, San Francisco heavily opposed the name change, and a judge has currently blocked it.
BART
BART serves this airport with a station located across the main roadway from the terminals. Automated ✈ trains from this station go to Coliseum Station where riders can transfer to other lines to the rest of the system, including stops in Downtown Oakland and San Francisco.
