Vermont Avenue is a major north-south road spanning Griffith Park to the north and Anaheim Street to the south in Harbor City. The road is lined with many medical and educational institutions including USC. It's the second busiest transit corridor in LA County, particularly in the northern segment north of I-205.

Vermont Ave once had streetcar service, operated by Los Angeles Railway, running between LA City College and 116th St. This service included three routes (F, U, and V) covering different parts of the street until the mid-1950s and early 1960s when the tracks were removed and streetcars were replaced by buses. A subway was constructed under Vermont north of Wilshire and opened for service in 1999.

Besides the subway, other Metro Rail lines have stops at Vermont Avenue further south. The corridor is served by multiple bus routes, and due to high ridership, bus rapid transit and even rail options are being considered for the area.
