Ticket machines at BART stations sell adult [[Clipper]] cards for travel on BART and other transit systems. Machines also allow riders to add values onto existing [[Clipper]] cards. BART no longer sells paper [[BART ticket]]s from station ticket machines, but continues to accept these tickets at faregates.

Some machines do not sell Clipper cards but only allow adding values to existing cards.

Standard tickets do not offer any type of discounts (student, senior, disabled). If you want to buy discounted tickets, you will need to buy these online, by mail, or at selected locations.

The machines accept:

* Coins (Not all machines take $1 coins)
* Bills
* ATM, Debit and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and Discover)

Machines can give change up to $4.95. If you have a $10 or $20 bill but want to buy a card or add money to an existing card with $5 or less in value, use the adjacent [[bill changing machine]] to change to $5 bills.

BART ticket machines can change $1 bills to quarters.

==How to use==
Unlike most ticket machines, BART machines themselves don't tell how much a rider should pay. You need to know how much your fare is and then buy a Clipper card with the value needed for your trip.

# Determine which station you are heading to and how much the fare is. A chart is provided at every machine indicating one way and round trip fares.
# If you are buying a new card, insert cash or credit/debit card into the machine. A $3 fee will be charged for the new card with the rest of the money for fare value.
#* The default value is $20 if you pay by a credit/debit card.
#* If you are adding value to an existing Clipper card, tap the card at the blue circle and then insert cash or credit/debit card.
# Pick up your ticket and change.

Clipper card is reusable not only on BART but on nearly all connecting local and regional transit with BART, so you may want to add the fare amount for connecting trips or return trips when buying the card the first time. No ID or registration is need to purchase and use Clipper Cards unless the user want to access extra features like fare value protection or autoload.

BART ticket machines only allow adding "e-cash" fare values on Clipper cards and do not offer transit passes for other transit agencies.
