Caltrain is a regional rail system serving San Francisco, San Jose, Gilroy and cities in between.

Stations

Schedules and fares

Regular service

96 trains are operated on weekays between San Francisco and San Jose, of which 22 are Baby Bullet express trains. On weekdays only, 3 trips are offered from Gilroy to San Francisco in the morning and 3 trips from San Franciso to Gilroy in the Afternoon.

On weekends, local trains operates on an hourly basis between San Francisco and San Jose.

Special service

Caltrain operates special service for San Francisco Giants home games and other events at AT&T Park.

Although no extra train is provided for San Jose Sharks home games at HP Pavilion, Caltrain will delay the departure of the last train from San Jose if the game continues past 10:30pm, until 15 minutes after the game ends.

Caltrain also operates extra service for Bay to Breakers, as well as 4th of July and New Year's fireworks in San Francisco.

Fares

Fares on Caltrain vary by the number of fare zones you are traveling. Caltrain offers one way tickets, day passes, 10-ride tickets and monthly passes.

Caltrain tickets can be purchased at all ticket machines at all Caltrain station, as well as at the ticket counter at San Francisco and San Jose stations.

Caltrain is a proof of payment system. It means that all passengers must have a valid ticket before boarding the trains and tickets are not sold on the trains. Conductors onboard will check passengers for tickets on a random basis. Passengers caught without a valid ticket is subject to citation.

Bicycles

Bicycles can be taken aboard Caltrain at all hours on all trains, with no additional fare, but only on the designated bike car where bike racks have been installed.

Most Caltrain stations offers bicycle racks and lockers. Some stations have shared bike storage.

Luggage

Luggage space is provided on all trains at designated car. The luggage car is located in the middle of the train and has a green decal displayed by the door.

Restroom

Gallery cars (silver train)

Every train has at least one restroom onboard, which is always located on the northernmost car (facing San Francisco).

Bombardier cars (red and grey train)

Every car has a restroom onboard on the lower level.
