Types of Transit Service

Local Service

A term used to mean a bus or train will make all stops along it's route.

Limited Service

Indicates a bus or train will only make limited stops along the route. Limited service lines will often skip stops along a route, but still includes stops along the way in order to connect with other lines and be placed within range of local stops for riders who don't mind walking a few extra blocks.

Express Service

Often used for more limited, limited service. Express service will typically focus on service between major destinations and population centers in order to make as few stops as needed to et from point A to point B.

Community Service

Typically used to provide connecting service within residential neighborhoods and nearby transit hubs or neighborhood centers (often the neighborhood and small town shopping districts) where connections to other transit lines can be made.
