Caltrain

Schedules and fares

On weekdays, most local and limited stop trains serve this station. Not all Baby Bullet trains stop at San Mateo.

On weekends, all trains serve this station.

Paying the fare

Buy your ticket from Caltrain ticket machines located on the Caltrain platforms.

10-ride ticket validators are located adjacent to all ticket machines.

Boarding the train

For northbound trains to San Francisco, board trains on the platform by Railroad Ave.

For southbound trains to San Jose/Gilroy, board trains on the platform by the station building.

Use the pedestrian tunnel at the middle of the station or walk across the tracks at the south end to get from one platform to another.

Parking

Parking for train riders is available at the Transit Center by the southbound platform (Purple area), and at a lot by 2nd Street and South Railroad Ave.

Transit Center lot (purple area)

The lot at the Transit Center is owned and managed by the City of San Mateo. Between 8:00am and 6:00pm, parking costs 25 cents per hour or $2.50 for 10 hours. After 6pm, parking is free for everyone. This lot honors Caltrain monthly parking permit.

To pay for parking, remember the stall number and go to a gray pay station located in the parking area. The pay station accepts coins and $1 bills.

South Railroad Ave and 2nd Street (red area)

Parking requires a $2 daily fee or a Caltrain monthly parking permit. Pay the daily parking fee at a Caltrain parking permit machine and place the day permit on top of the dashboard.
