Located at the northern border of Chicago, Howard Station connects the Red, Yellow, and Purple lines. Howard also serves as the transfer point between the city-oriented CTA and the suburban Pace bus systems. The elevated station, built in 1921, was expanded and renovated in stages from 2000 to 2009.

CTA 'L'

This station entrances are located on south side of Howard Street under the tracks, and by the bus plaza further south. There are exit-only stairs to the north side of Howard. CTA ticket machines are available at the Howard Street and bus plaza entrances. The machines sell reloadable Ventra card, single-ride, or 1 day ticket. All riders must pass through the turnstile with a valid Ventra card, ticket, contactless bank card, or mobile device with Apple/Samsung/Android Pay.

This station features two center platforms. One of the platforms is used by northbound Yellow and Purple line trains and another for southbound Red and Purple line trains
