Value card and Clipper

Value card

Value cards have replaced ticket books. Value cards come in different denominations: $18, $25, $36, $50 and $75 ($18 and $36 cards are for Marin County travel only). Each card is good for 6 months.

Card must be inserted into the farebox reader when boarding. Discounts are automatically given.

Value card information

Clipper

Riders paying with Clipper cards are provided with the same discount available to Value card riders. To pay with a Clipper card, tag the card once at the reader upon boarding, and tag again when exiting. Transfers are automatically tracked.

Upon the first tag, the maximum fare available will be charged at the first tag. If you get off the bus where a lower zone fare is charged, you will need to tag again to receive a refund. For example, a $6.72 fare is charged at the first tag when boarding a SF bound bus in Petaluma. In San Rafael, tag again when you get off and receive a refund of $2.88. (Petaluma to San Rafael fare is $3.84)
