Fares on MST is charged according to the number of fare zones traveled. Pay the appropriate fare at the farebox (or show a valid pass to the driver) when boarding.

Cash fares

Transfers cost $0.25 for adults and $0.10 for youth, seniors, and the disabled.

Youth (5-18), seniors (65 or over), disabled, and Medicare cardholders are eligible for the Discount fares.

Fare zones

The MST system is divided into six fare zones as shown below. Grey diamond zones are considered to be within the square zones that they overlap. For example, passengers in Castroville pay a single zone fare to Watsonville, Salinas, or Monterey.

Inter-agency fare arrangements

The following passes are accepted for a single zone credit, upgrade payment is required to travel across zones:

  • VTA local day pass
  • VTA local monthly pass or sticker

The following passes are accepted on all MST routes for all zones:

  • VTA express day pass
  • VTA express monthly pass
  • VTA express Eco Pass
  • Caltrain monthly pass with 3 zones or more

A Transfer or a day pass from Santa Cruz Metro is accepted on MST routes within the North County/Watsonville fare zone only.
