San Fernando Road is a major road and historic highway running from Lincoln Heights, just north of Downtown LA, to Newhall Pass, where I-5 continues north to Santa Clarita and beyond. It passes through Glendale, Burbank, and San Fernando. The I-5 freeway and the Metrolink AV Antelope Valley Line run parallel to the road. The corridor is served by local bus routes. Before the construction of freeways, San Fernando Road was part of U.S. Route 99, which spanned between the Canadian and Mexican borders, and U.S. Route 6, which continued to Provincetown, Massachusetts, where the road meets the Atlantic Ocean.
