Route 23 is a frequent east-west grid route connecting De Anza College in Cupertino, Downtown San Jose, and the Alum Rock light rail station in East San Jose via Stevens Creek and East Santa Clara Street/Alum Rock Avenue.
VTA Rapid route 523 offers limited-stop service along San Carlos/Stevens Creek between Downtown San Jose and De Anza College, while Rapid route 522 provides limited-stop service along Santa Clara Street/Alum Rock Avenue between Alum Rock Station and Downtown San Jose. On Alum Rock Avenue, the Rapid 522 runs on the dedicated busway in the median, whereas Route 23 uses regular car lanes to serve curbside stops.
