Wilshire Boulevard is a major east-west road spanning Downtown Los Angeles and Downtown Santa Monica. It passes through various neighborhoods, including the diverse immigrant communities of Westlake and Koreatown, as well as the wealthy, exclusive city of Beverly Hills. Much of the corridor is lined with high-rise buildings and commercial spaces, although single-family neighborhoods are situated behind many of the high-rises.

Wilshire Boulevard is a major transit corridor in the Los Angeles region, featuring both surface buses (local and rapid) and underground trains. The Los Angeles Metro Rail subway currently runs beneath Wilshire, connecting Downtown Los Angeles and Koreatown at Western. Construction is underway to extend the subway from Western to the VA Medical Center, just west of I-405, primarily beneath Wilshire.

Much of Wilshire Blvd has at least two general traffic lanes in each direction, along with a lane for left turns. In the road segment within the City of Los Angeles, the curbside lane is designated as a bus/bike-only lane during weekday peak hours, allowing right-turning car and truck traffic. Bus-mounted video cameras enforce the bus lane, citing vehicles parked in the bus lanes and at bus stops.
