South Shore Line is a commuter rail line (using electric multiple units) between South Bend in Indiana and the Chicago Loop.
South Shore Line shares tracks and stations with Metra Electric line between Millennium Station and 63rd Street in Chicago.

How to take South Shore Line
Before boarding the trains, buy train ticket from ticket agents (at selected stations), from ticket vending machines (accept credit/debit cards only), or with South Shore Line app. Tickets can also be purchased onboard from conductors ($1 surcharge applies when agent is available).
Fares on South Shore Line are determined by the fares zones you plan to travel. Multi-ride and monthly passes are available and can be purchased from ticket agents or with mobile app.
Check schedule for trip time and train stop prior to riding. Many trains operate only from Gary or Michigan City to Chicago. Express trains also run during weekday peak hours.
Many stations (mostly in or near Chicago) feature high platforms where level access to all rail cars is provided. Other stations have short low level platforms where only some doors are open for boarding and exiting. Some stations have a push button to activate a strobe light to request pick up.
Bicycle access
Bicycles can be carried onboard on selected trips (limited weekday peak trips and most weekend trips) from April through October. Bikes can be stored on racks at marked cars. Bikes can only be loaded and unloaded at stations with high platforms where doors automatically open.
Disabled access
Level boarding is provided at stations with high platforms. At some low platform stops, train access is provided via wayside wheelchair lift or a mini-high platform.
