It follows a Pacific Electric corridor which discontinued passenger service back in the 50s. It is scheduled to open on April 28, 2012. However, two of the stations will not be ready for service on that date but are scheduled to open in the summer.

Metro Rail E Line (also known as Expo Line) follows a Pacific Electric corridor from Downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica which discontinued passenger service back in the 1950s.

In 2023, after completion of the Regional Connector project, the E line continues to East LA replacing the Metro Gold Line.

E line trains run run every 8-10 minutes daily during the day and every 20 minutes at night until about midnight. This line uses Proof of payment fare system with validated TAP cards. Many stations have faregates that require a TAP card to open.

At 7th Street/Metro Center in downtown, it connects with Metro B Line and D Line. In Downtown LA, it shares stations with Metro A Line line. At Expo/Crenshaw, it connects with Metro K Line.
