Fares on Metrolink vary according to distance. Metrolink uses proof of payment fare system. Tickets must be purchased at the station before boarding the train. No tickets are sold on-board. Metrolink offers one way, round trip, 10-trip, and monthly passes.

Ticket types

All tickets are valid only within the stations indicated unless specified otherwise.

Ticket types Validation period Notes
One way 3 hours after purchase for one way travel between the stations purchased.
Round trip Valid for a same day round trip between the stations purchased. The first trip must start within 3 hours of purchase and the second trip must end on the same day.
10-Trip Valid for 10 one way trips between the stations purchased within 45 days. Tickets must be validated for each ride (using validators at stations) before boarding. Ticket expires in 45 days. The same ticket can be used by multiple riders traveling together by validating the ticket each time for each rider.
Monthly Pass Pass is good for unlimited travel between the stations purchased for the entire month. Valid on the Amtrak Surfliner trains for station pairs that are also served by Amtrak.
Friends and family 4 pack Valid for a group up to 4 people traveling together anywhere throughout the Metrolink system. Fare is good on Saturday and Sunday only.

Discounts

Discounts on one way, round trip, 10-trip ticket and monthly pass are available for certain riders.

Youth (age 6-18) 25% off one way and round trip tickets (weekends only)
Child (age 5 and under) Up to 3 children can ride free with a fare paying adult. Each additional child pays the youth fare.
Senior (age 65 and older) 50% off one way and round trip tickets, 25% off monthly pass and 10-trip tickets.
Disabled riders 50% off one way and round trip tickets, 25% off monthly pass and 10-trip tickets. Present proof of eligibility upon request (Disabled fare ID from LA and other transit agencies, DMV placard ID, or Medicare ID).

Passengers with LA County Access Services ID card can ride free.

Students 10% off monthly pass and 10-trip tickets. Present a valid student ID upon request.
Active military 10% off one way and round trip tickets. Present a valid Common Access Card upon request.

Inter-agency fare arrangements

Under the EZ Transit Pass program, valid Metrolink tickets are also good for free connecting local transit on the same day (10 trip ticket must have same day validation. The 3 hour limit on one way ticket does not apply to local transit connection). Fare upgrade is required on express buses.
