SamTrans accepts cash and offers various passes and tokens. SamTrans does not offer transfers nor day passes.

Local routes

Apply on routes CX and KX within San Mateo County.

Local routes 391, 292, 297, out of San Francisco

Fares apply only for boardings in San Francisco on these routes. Local fares apply for trips to San Francisco or within San Mateo County.

For adults, a local pass with a $1.75 cash upgrade is accepted.

Express routes

Routes CX and KX within San Mateo County charges local fares.

Tokens

SamTrans offers tokens for local adult and youth fares. They are sold in a package of 10. Multiple tokens, or a token with cash upgrade, can be used on expresses buses or 391, 292, or 397 leaving San Francisco.

Interagency transfer arrangements

The following passes are accepted for local fare credit on all SamTrans routes anywhere:

AC Transit and Dumbarton Express passes are accepted as local fare credit at shared stops only.

VTA day and monthly passes are accepted as local fare credit at all bus stops in Menlo Park and Palo Alto, which are specially marked.
