The Chinatown in San Francisco is considered the first and the largest Chinese community outside Asia. The neighborhood is served by a number of transit routes. On street parking is difficult and off-street garages are often packed especially on the weekends.

BART and Muni Metro
BART and Metro riders can transfer to Muni buses or cable cars for a short ride into Chinatown:
- Embarcadero Station > California cable car
- Montgomery Station > 9X, 30, or 45 (return buses from Chinatown serve Powell Station instead.)
- Powell Station > Powell-Hyde or Powell-Mason cable car
Caltrain
Muni buses provide direction connection from Caltrain to Chinatown:
- 4th and King Station > 30 or 45
