Powell Station is a three level underground station for BART and Muni Metro in San Francisco's main shopping district and is within walking distance from Moscone Center. It is also the terminal for cable cars to Fisherman's Wharf.

The station has eight stair/escalator entrances on both sides of Market Street, from 4th Street to 5th Street, with one elevator on the north side of Market Street. It also includes direct walkways to the basement level of the San Francisco Shopping Centre and the concourse at Union Square/Market Street Station. Muni Metro and BART share the same concourse but have separate platforms in different levels. Each system has its own faregates and station agents.

This station has a direct connection to T Third Street line's Union Square/Market Street Station for service to Mission Bay and Chinatown. This is the recommended transfer point from BART to Chase Center via the T.

Restrooms are available on the concourse level inside the BART the paid area, staffed by an attendant. There's also a street level toilet kiosk on the north side of Market Street by the Cable Car turntable.
