Oakland, Sacramento - Bakersfield
7 days a week. Holiday service varies.

Gold Runner is an Amtrak California (state sponsored regional Amtrak) conventional intercity train service connecting the Bay Area, Sacramento, and Bakersfield through the Central Valley. Trains run every 2-3 hours daily. Thruway buses offer additional connections to Yosemite Valley, San Jose, and Los Angeles. Only coach seats are available, with complimentary snacks and beverages (no café car). Each car can carry up to three bicycles. Free Wi-Fi service is available. The rail service was formerly known as the San Joaquins (or San Joaquin) until it was rebranded in November 2025.

High-speed rail is under construction between Merced and Bakersfield, running partially parallel to the Gold Runner service. When the initial segment of high-speed rail begins service in the early 2030s, the conventional Gold Runner rail service will be shortened to connect Merced with the Bay Area and Sacramento, serving as a feeder for the high-speed rail.
