State/Lake Station is one of the original Loop Elevated stations. This station is served by Brown, Green, Pink, Orange, and Purple lines. Situated over State Street, the city's main strip, it serves as a transfer point (out of the system) to the Red Line at Lake Station, less than half a block away. It has only undergone minor renovations throughout its history, so the station lacks ADA accessibility.

CTA 'L'

The stations have stairs directly from street (one at each corner at Lake and State intersection) to the two side platforms. The turnstiles and CTA ticket machines are located on platform level at each platform. The machines sell reloadable Ventra card, single-ride, or 1 day ticket. All riders must pass through the turnstile with a valid Ventra card, ticket, contactless bank card, or mobile device with Apple/Samsung/Android Pay. (inner and outer loop). There is no direct access between the platforms except by exiting the station and crossing the street.

At this station, Pink, Orange, and Purple lines provide clockwise service in the Loop, using only the inner track (eastbound platform). The Brown Line offers counter-clockwise service, stopping only on the outer track (westbound platform). The Green Line serves both platforms.

Free transfer is provided for riders with Ventra card/ticket between this stop and at Lake Station.
