City: San Francisco | Financial District | Embarcadero and Market St
Ferry Building is a historic landmark for being the main gateway to San Francisco before opening of the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge. Ferry Building continues to be a major transit center with ferry service to the East Bay and the North Bay. Today, the renovated facility houses numerous shops and restaurants.
The Ferry Building is within walking distance from Embarcadero Station and Transbay Terminal, with additional train and bus connection throughout the Bay Area. Clipper card purchases and replenishment are available at the Bay Crossings store in the Ferry Building and at the Golden Gate Ferry ticket booth.
Golden Gate Ferry
Ticket booth and docks for Golden Gate Ferry is located directly on the other side of the Ferry Building. From the street, walk through or around the Ferry building.
East Bay ferries
Ferries to Oakland and Alameda board from Gate E (see map). Baylink Ferry boards from Gate B. Purchase ferry tickets at the Bay Crossings store inside the Ferry Building. Vallejo Baylink 200 bus stops on The Embarcadero by the north side of the Ferry Building.
Blue & Gold Fleet
Ferries board from Gate B. Purchase ferry tickets at the Bay Crossings store inside the Ferry Building.
There's no Amtrak train service in San Francisco. Amtrak Thruway provides connections between SF and the trains at Emeryville Station. The terminal for Amtrak is located in the Agriculture Building, which is south of the Ferry Building.
The terminal features full service ticket counters, QuikTrak machines and an enclosed waiting area. Check baggage service (for long distance trains) is available at this location as well.
- Amtrak station code: SFC [1]
The main stop for the F-Market & Wharves historic streetcars is located in front of the Ferry Building on the median of the Embarcadero. Some F line streetcars only operate between the Ferry Building and Fisherman's Wharf.
Stop for the California Cable Car is located at California and Market streets (by Hyatt hotel). From the Ferry Building, walk across the Embarcadero through Justin Herman Plaza to Market Street.
