Highway 17 Express is operated by Santa Cruz Metro and is an Amtrak Thruway service. Buses may hold up to 15 minutes for late Amtrak connections.

During weekday peak hours, some trips begin and end at Soquel Park & Ride with no stops at Metro Center.

Most buses on this route provide undercarriage storage space. Passengers can load and unload baggages only at Santa Cruz Metro Center, Scotts Valley Transit Center, San Jose Diridon Station and San Jose State University.
