Overview

station building

San Jose Diridon Station is a major transit hub in the South Bay, with bus and train connections throughout the South Bay and California.

The station is named after Rod Diridon, a former Santa Clara County Supervisor who is considered the "father" of the VTA light rail system.

An underground walkway connects the station building on the east side with all train platforms and VTA light rail.

Paying the fare

You can buy Caltrain tickets from ticket machines located in the outer lobby area near the ramp to the underground walkway. A ticket machine is also located in the underground walkway by the VTA light rail platforms.

Tickets can also be purchased at the ticket counter in the main building. The ticket counter accepts ATM cards, checks and Commuter Check vouchers for payment.

10-ride ticket validators are located in the outer lobby and in the underground walkway near the ramps to the platforms.

Boarding the train

Use the underground walkway to access the platforms.

Most northbound trains to San Francisco depart on track 2 or 3. Most trains toward Tamien or Gilroy arrive on track 5.

There are signs near the tunnel entryway showing the track for departure trains. However, trains may depart and arrive on any track. Check overhead signs or with conductors for train departures.

Sharks games

Northbound train #197 (weekday) and #451 (Saturday) departing at 10:30 PM may be delayed until 15 minutes after Sharks home games.

Weekend connection to Tamien Station

On weekends and holidays, all trains from San Francisco terminate at this station. A shuttle bus provides connection between this station and Tamien Station. Board the shuttle bus at the bus plaza. A valid Caltrain ticket or pass is required for the shuttle.

Amtrak tickets are sold at the ticket counter in the main building, or via Quik Trak machines in the outer lobby.

Checked baggage service is available for Coast Starlight and Thruway bus passengers at the ticket counter.

Paying the fare

An ACE ticket agent is available in the outer lobby area 20 minutes before the departure of trains #4 (3:35pm) and #6 (4:35pm). Cash, credit cards, and vouchers are accepted. Passengers can buy tickets onboard with cash for other trains.

ACE 20-ride validator is located in the outer lobby.

VTA Light Rail

VTA Light Rail platforms are located to the west side of the station, opposite to the main station building.

Paying the fare

Light rail tickets can be purchased from ticket machines located on each platform.

G Green Line line operates every 15 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 30 minutes at other times.

To Downtown San Jose (connection with B Blue Line line), board a train toward Mountain View or Civic Center on the northbound platform.

Bus Connection

At this station, VTA provides bus service throughout the South Bay, as well as to BART at Fremont Station. For other VTA routes serving Downtown San Jose, take Downtown Area Shuttle or any VTA bus route below heading toward Downtown.

Highway 17 Express goes to Scotts Valley and Santa Cruz. MST 55 goes to Monterey via Morgan Hill and Gilroy. Megabus goes to Los Angeles.

Highway 17 Express

Buses are timed to connect with Capitol Corridor trains and Thruway buses from Stockton at this station. Buses may hold up to 15 minutes for late trains.

San Jose Diridon is a stop where passengers can load and unload baggages in the undercarriage storage space.

Monterey Salinas Transit

Monterey Salinas Transit 55 buses stop at the bus plaza north of the station building (B).

Buses are timed to connect with Capitol Corridor trains at this station. Buses may hold up to 10 minutes for late trains.

Megabus

Stop for Megabus is on Cahill Street south of the station building (E).

Taxi

Parking

Daily parking is available east of the station, accessible from Cahill St and Montgomery St. There's only one parking lot for the disabled and it is located between the station building and the corner of Cahill and San Fernando.

Parking requires a $2 daily fee or a Caltrain monthly parking permit. To pay the daily fee, remember the stall number and go to a Caltrain parking pay station located by the pedestrian tunnel to the platforms.

Parking at this station can be full. For Caltrain riders, additional parking is available at Tamien and Santa Clara stations. However, not as many trains serve these stations.

Amtrak long term parking

A lot located south of the station is reserved for Amtrak riders. A special permit from the Amtrak ticket office is required.

HP Pavilion events

Special rate ($20) is charged 2 hours prior to events at HP Pavilion. Parking fee is collected by attendants at parking lot entrances.
