The Chinatown in San Francisco is considered the first and the largest Chinese community outside Asia. The neighborhood is served by a number of transit routes. On street parking is difficult and off-street garages are often packed especially on the weekends.

California: Downtown - Richmond District
Bayshore: City College - Visitacion Valley - Chinatown - Fisherman's Wharf
Bayshore 'A' Express: Visitacion Valley - Chinatown
Bayshore 'B' Express: City College - Visitacion Valley - Chinatown - Fisherman's Wharf
Folsom: Valencia & Caesar Chavez — Jackson Street & Van Ness
Stockton: Crissy Field - 4th & King Caltrain via North Beach and Chinatown
Union-Stockton: Lyon and Greenwich - 4th & King Caltrain via Chinatown
All-Nighter: West Portal Station - San Francisco State University via Downtown
Cable Car
Market - Van Ness via California Street
Powell and Market - Hyde and Beach
Powell and Market - Taylor and Bay
BART, Muni Metro, Historic streetcar
BART and Metro riders can transfer to Muni buses or cable cars for a short ride into Chinatown:
- From Embarcadero Station, transfer to line 1 bus or California Cable Car
- From Montgomery Station, transfer to bus 8, 30, or 45 (return buses from Chinatown serve Powell Station instead.)
- From Powell Station, transfer to Powell-Hyde or Powell-Mason cable car
Caltrain
Take Muni bus 30 or 45 to get from Caltrain 4th & King Station to Chinatown.
Ferries
Transfer to Muni from either the Ferry Building, Pier 33, or Pier 41 to Chinatown:
- From Ferry Building, walk to Embarcadero Station and transfer to California Cable Car
- From Pier 33 or Pier 41, walk 1 block south to Powell Street by North Point and transfer to bus 8
