The 6 Hayes-Parnassus is a local bus route operating from Golden Gate Heights Park to SF Civic Center/Market Street via 9th Ave, Parnassus Ave, Clayton St, Frederick St, Masonic Ave, and Hayes Street. It serves the Inner Sunset, Cole Valley, Haight-Ashbury, and Hayes Valley. It's a combination of the 6 Haight-Parnassus and 21 Hayes routes, which were streetcar routes before 1948, and cable car routes (on Hayes and Haight) between 1880s and 1906. As bus routes, both the 6 and 21 ran on Market Street until 2020 before the COVID pandemic. They were restored in 2022, with the 21 no longer running on Market Street. In 2025, the routes were combined as a cost-reduction measure to preserve service where there's no duplication.
