BART

Ticket purchase

Purchase your BART ticket from ticket machines in the station concourse. Some ticket types, including BART Plus and high value discount tickets, are sold at the Transit Store, also on the concourse level.

Muni adult Fast Pass is accepted for rides anywhere between this station and Balboa Park Station. Just insert the Fast Pass into the BART fare gate when entering and exiting.

Boarding trains

Proceed through BART faregates and enter the platform level.

At the platforms, look at the overhead platform sign or listen to station announcement for train destination when a train arrives.

Platform 1 - to Daly City, SFO, and Millbrae
Platform 2 - to East Bay (Richmond, Pittsburg/Bay Point, Dublin/Pleasanton, Fremont)

  • To Daly City and other stations in San Francisco, take any train toward Daly City, SFO, or Millbrae.


Richmond - Millbrae and Berryessa - Daly City lines do not run past 7:00pm or on Sundays.


Transfer to Muni Metro

  1. Go up to the concourse
  2. Exit through BART faregates
  3. Enter through Muni faregates (generally located direct across from BART)

Embarcadero is a designated transfer point to Muni Metro toward AT&T Park, 4th & King Station, and beyond. During Giants homegames, Muni will sell tickets at tables inside BART paid area.

Bicycle restrictions

Weekdays approximately 7:05 to 8:50 am, bikes are allowed in this station only for trips to the East Bay. On weekdays approximately 4:25 to 6:30 pm, bicycles are not allowed to board at this station and bicyclists from the East Bay must exit at this station.

Muni Metro

Ticket purchase

Pay cash fare at the Muni faregates on the concourse level. The faregates only take $1 coins. Bill to coin changers are available next to faregates by the attendent booth. Take the transfer from the faregate and keep it as proof of payment.

If you have a valid pass or transfer, enter at the faregate adjacent to the booth and show the attendant your pass or transfer. You can enter through the swing gate (at the side) with your pass or transfer if there's no attendent at the booth.

Boarding trains

Proceed through the faregates and enter the platform level. When a train arrives, look at the headsign for train destination.

Historic Streetcar

F-Market and Wharves

For streetcar toward Castro, board at the curb on Market Street by Drumm St.

For streetcar toward Fisherman's Wharf, board at a boarding island on Market Street by Main St.

Additional streetcar service to Fisherman's Wharf is available at the nearby Ferry Building.

F-Market and Wharves streetcars to Fisherman's Wharf may get crowded by the time they arrive at Embarcadero Station. Consider boarding at a stop further south on Market Street. An alternative route to the Fisherman's Wharf area is 10-Townsend on Fremont Street.

Cable Car

The terminal for the California Street Cable Car is located on California St and Drumm St.

Pay the Cable Car fare onboard.
