Powell Station is located in the heart of San Francisco's main shopping district and is within walking distance from Moscone Center. This station is especially crowded on weekends with shoppers, street performers, and tourists waiting to board the cable cars to Fisherman's Wharf.

This underground station is shared by Muni Metro and BART systems. They have separate faregates, station agents, and platforms.
