Powell Station is located in the heart of San Francisco's main shopping district and is within walking distance from Moscone Center. This station is especially crowded on weekends with shoppers, street performers, and tourists waiting to board the cable cars to Fisherman's Wharf.

This underground station is shared by Muni Metro and BART systems. They have separate faregates, station agents, and platforms.

        lines serve this station underground. Ticket machines are available at the underground station concourse. First time riders must purchase a reusable BART ticket from the machine before boarding. All riders must pass through the faregates with a valid BART ticket or Clipper card. Keep the ticket or card for the ride and use it to pass through the faregates again when exiting the station.

This station has a MyTransitPlus kiosk that sells new Clipper cards and other tickets not available from ticket machines. MyTransitPlus kiosk opens on weekday only. New Clipper cards can also be obtained from Muni ticket machines that are in the station concourse.

J K L M N T S lines serve this station underground. Muni Metro opens until about 1:00am.

Cash fare riders need to buy a Muni ticket or Clipper card from any Muni ticket machine on the concourse level. Riders with a valid Muni ticket or Clipper card can pass through any Muni faregate and proceed to the platform. Riders with other forms of passes or transfers should use the faregate next to the attendant booth and show the pass or transfer to the attendant. Riders must keep the proof of payment for the ride and fare inspectors may ask to see it onboard Muni vehicles or inside the paid area.

Bus service within San Francisco.

Lines 8X, 30, 45, and 91 stop on 4th Street in the southbound direction, and 3rd Street in the northbound direction. Montgomery Station is closer to the 3rd Street bus stop.

AC Transit

Historic Streetcar

F-Market & Wharves streetcars operate on the surface along Market Street and stop on boarding islands in the middle of Market St by 4th St and by 5th St.

Cable Car

Terminal for Powell-Mason and Powell-Hyde lines is located on Powell St by Market St. It is a popular tourist spot because the cable cars are manually turned-around there.

Souvenir cable car tickets can be purchased at the ticket booth by the turnaround.
