Union Square is a hotel and shopping district in San Francisco that spans several blocks from the Union Square Park. Union Square has numerous high-end retailers and provides a big-city downtown shopping experience. Parking in the area is not free, but is served by a number of transit routes.

BART and Muni Metro

Located under Market Street, Powell Station is shared by BART and Muni Metro systems.

Historic streetcars

F-Market & Wharves streetcar stops on Market Street by 4th Street and by 5th Street.

Cable cars

The following lines serve the Union Square area. The cable cars turn around at Powell and Market.

Caltrain

Muni provides direct connection from Caltrain to the Union Square area:

  1. 4th & King Station > 30 or 45
  2. 4th & King Station > N Judah or T Third Street to Powell Station.

The Caltrain station is nearly a mile from Market Street. Proceed north along 4th Street to get from the Caltrain station to Market Street.

Ferries

Transfer to Muni from either the Ferry Building or Pier 41 to the Union Square area:

  1. Ferry Building > F-Market & Wharves streetcar
  2. Pier 41 > Walk 1 block south to Beach and Stockton > F-Market & Wharves streetcar
