38 Geary

From Transit.Wiki
🚍 Geary: Richmond District - Salesforce Transit Center
24 hour service.

About the route

The 38 Geary corridor is one of the most frequent and utilized bus routes in San Francisco. It connects the Richmond District with Downtown SF along Geary, passing through Fillmore/Japantown and Union Square. The 38R-Geary Rapid is the limited-stop variant of the 38. 38 is part of the All Nighter network.

This route has two daytime termini on the western end past 33rd Ave, with bus trips alternating between them: "32nd Avenue & Balboa" and "Fort Miley Hospital" (VA San Francisco). For night and overnight trips, buses start and end at "48th Avenue & Point Lobos," which is the daytime terminus for 38R.

Geary was the first municipally owned streetcar line in 1912 and transitioned to buses in 1956. Before the COVID pandemic, the 38 Geary corridor had two-zone peak hour express routes (38AX, 38BX).
