Montgomery Station is in the heart of the San Francisco's Financial District. This station, along with Embarcadero Station, are the most used stations in the whole BART system. Muni Metro and BART systems share the same concourse but do not share platforms. They have separate faregates and station agents.

        lines serve this station underground. Ticket machines are available at the underground station concourse. First time riders must purchase a reusable BART ticket from the machine before boarding. All riders must pass through the faregates with a valid BART ticket or Clipper card. Keep the ticket or card for the ride and use it to pass through the faregates again when exiting the station.

This station has a MyTransitPlus kiosk that sells new Clipper cards and other tickets not available from ticket machines. MyTransitPlus kiosk opens on weekday only. New Clipper cards can also be obtained from Muni ticket machines that are in the station concourse. This station features center platforms.

Cash fare riders need to buy a Muni ticket or Clipper card from any Muni ticket machine on the concourse level. Riders with a valid Muni ticket or Clipper card can pass through any Muni faregate and proceed to the platform. Riders with other forms of passes or transfers should use the faregate next to the attendant booth and show the pass or transfer to the attendant. Riders must keep the proof of payment for the ride and fare inspectors may ask to see it onboard Muni vehicles or inside the paid area.

Lines 8, 30, 45, and 91 stop on 3rd Street in the northbound direction, and 5th Street in the southbound direction. Powell Station is closer to the 5th Street bus stop.
