About the route

9 San Bruno provides local bus service between Visitacion Valley and Downtown SF via San Bruno Ave, Bayshore Blvd, Potrero Ave, 11th Street, and Market Street, serving SF General Hospital. The route on 11th Street and Potrero Ave was originally the H Potrero streetcar line in 1914 and switched to buses in 1950. The section on Bayshore and San Bruno Ave was the 25 San Bruno streetcar line before 1948. This route was established in 1983 to provide service on Market Street from the areas south of Market.

During weekday daytime, when the 9R-San Bruno Rapid operates, this route runs only between Bayshore/Arleta and 11th Street/Market, with 9R providing local service in Visitacion Valley and on Market Street. At night and on weekends, when 9R isn't running, this route serves stops south of Arleta and on Market Street. During overnight hours, the 90-Owl provides service on 11th Street, Potrero Ave, Bayshore Blvd, and San Bruno Ave.
